Hey everyone! We wanted to express our appreciation to our fans and supporters of our products! One area of Syntrax that we enjoy highlighting are our ambassadors! These individuals are NPC competitors, fitness models and dietitians for bariatric patients just to name a few.
Today, we want to introduce our newest ambassador and the first Paralympic athlete and 3-time Gold Medalist, Adam Page!
Syntrax: Tell everyone about yourself.
AP: I am Adam Page. I am 26 years old from Buffalo NY. I was born with a birth defect called spinabifida, where the spinal column doesn’t close completely leaving me paralyzed from the shins down.
Syntrax: When did you start your Paralympic career?
AP: My love for hockey started when I was three years old. I would go to (Buffalo)Sabres games with my dad. Growing up, I always wanted to play in the NHL. However, with my disability, I later learned that I would not be able to compete at stand up hockey. So, at the age of six, I got on the sled for the first time and never looked back! I loved it! I tried out for the Junior National Team at the age of 13, but didn’t make it. I came back the next year at age 14 and made the team. That summer I took a shot at trying out for the Men’s USA National team and didn’t make it. I didn’t give up. I came back that following year in 2007 and made the National Team at age 15! At that time, the youngest ever to make it.
Syntrax: How did sled hockey become your choice?
AP: Hockey has always been part of me from a young age and was lucky to find a sled hockey program here in Buffalo that I could be a part of.
Syntrax: Describe your experience being able to represent your country in sled hockey?
AP: Being able to represent your country in any sport is something that athletes dream of being able to do just like myself. It has been an amazing honor to be able to wear the red white and blue for 11 seasons and something that will never get old to me.
Syntrax: What was it like winning your first gold medal?
AP: My first gold medal came in 2010 in Vancouver British Columbia in my first Paralympics. I got to celebrate my 18th birthday while at the Paralympics and bring home the gold! My first one, it was just a honor to be there, let alone winning the gold medal.
Syntrax: Which Paralympic games was your most memorable?
AP: Each Paralympic games have been an extreme honor and thrill to be able to compete on such a stage as the Paralympics. It would be hard to pick my favorite one the last two Paralympic games we have made history in 2014 we were the first team to win back to back gold medals. In 2018 we were the first team to win 3 gold medals in a row.
Syntrax: You recently competed in a National Lacrosse tournament in Denver. Can you tell us a little about your experience there?
AP: Wheelchair Lacrosse is a sport I picked up about 4 years ago. I saw it online and loved the physical part of the game, like sled hockey. I told my parents I wanted to bring this sport to Buffalo to give athletes something else to do besides sled hockey. We now have been competing for 2 full years now with the help and sponsorship of the Buffalo Bandits, (the professional National Lacrosse League team). We held the National Championships in our first year of existence in Buffalo NY. Competing in Denver being a new team was tough but, we keep getting better every year and look forward to next summer to compete again.
Syntrax: When is your next event?
AP: My next event will actually be in the first week of December in Breckenridge Colorado for Adaptive down hill skiing, another sport I have been doing for 13 years now. I will be attending a Paralympic development camp for skiing to get in front of the USA coaches to possibly pursue a run at trying to make the USA Paralympic ski team!
Syntrax: What advice would you give anyone who's interested in competing in the Paralympics?
AP: I would just say have fun with anything you do in life. Find something your passionate about and pursue your dreams. To make the Paralympics you have to make a lot of sacrifices but it is the most rewarding experience you will ever have in your life time. Give 100 percent of your effort when no one is around that is the difference between a good athlete and a great one.
Syntrax: What Syntrax products are your favorites and how did you find out about us?
AP: I just joined the Syntrax Family and honored to be a part of it! I just ordered the Matrix Peanut Butter Cookie as well as the Matrix Amino Blue Raspberry BCAA’s. I love both of these products. I found out about Syntrax through Facebook and being a elite athlete I didn’t hesitate to jump at the opportunity to represent these great products and company!
Syntrax: What products are you excited to try next?
AP: I can’t wait to try more protein flavors! BCAA’s as these are very important products to have being an elite athlete and staying at your elite level!
